Celler Carlania is the family-run winery owned by Jordi and Sonia, a young couple devoted to wine and to the Conca de Barberà, who have provided us with one of the greatest delights in the whole of this denomination of origin: Petit Carlania, made from the native variety Trepat, with vines aged more than 50 years old and grown according to organic and biodynamic principles at an altitude exceeding 400 metres.
Petit Carlania began to be produced with small quantities of sulphites which have gradually been withdrawn. Nowadays, the wine contains no added sulphites but preserves its essence intact. In addition to the merits of top quality fruit, resulting from a huge amount of effort in the vineyard, there's also the transparency found in good natural wines. Produced without the introduction of yeasts and bottled with no filtration nor clarification, this is a wine which we might well compare with those from the French Beaujolais; the similarities between the Gamay and Trepat grapes undergoing carbonic maceration and the fruit-forward and succulence of both varieties justifies making the comparison.
Inside each bottle of Petit Carlania you'll just find the pure essence of the Trepat. Its nose is fresh, with aromas of pomegranate and cherries, red flower petals and pepper, typical of the varietal . On the palate, it's fruit-forward and has a fresh, dry finish, and an elegant, sweet-tasting touch that's decidedly moreish.
