Full-bodied, genuine and robust, Bertani's Amarone Valpantena is undoubtedly one of the most important and successful wines of this well-loved Valpolicella cru, located north of Verona on limestone-marly and clay-rich soil, particularly rich in iron. This extremely varied landscape produces a sprightly and congenial classic Amarone, which is rewarding and accessible. It is definitely well-rounded, but also breezy.
After the harvest, which is strictly manual starting from mid-September, the raisining takes place, which in all respects is comparable to that of the Amarone Classico, as it takes place in crates within typical grape-drying chambers until mid-January. Aging, which lasts about 30 months, is careful and top-class: a portion of the wine is kept in big Slavonia oak casks while a smaller percentage is kept in barriques.
Gorgeous ruby red in colour with enduring purple reflections, Valpantena from Casa Bertani emits intense fragrances of jammy cherry or cherry in alcohol, sour cherry, berries, dried fruits and sweet spices, which are characteristic of the area. Young but full-blown, the taste is of a typical Valpantena, easy to drink and extraordinarily balanced. The soft and silky tannins give the wine an excellent structure, and the freshness, which is prominent and inviting, goes hand in hand with the enduring finish of ripe and fragrant fruit.
