The Château Marjosse is a historic property located 14 kilometers south of Saint-Émilion and built in 1782. It is surrounded by a magnificent property of 16 hectares of vineyards rooted to excellent clay and limestone soils. The renowned winemaker Pierre Lurton, born in a neighboring property, bought the property progressively from 1991 and since then has not stopped producing wines of increasing quality. Some of the vines are relatively young, but others date back to 1920. The Château Marjosse red is a wine based on merlot grapes, accompanied by cabernet franc and, to a lesser extent, with cabernet sauvignon and malbec, the variety with the longest-lived strains. The average age of the strains is about twenty five years and the soils, as in most of the property, are clay-calcareous. The planting density is 5,000 plants per hectare and the aging of the wine lasts for a year in French oak barrels, of which only 50% is new; the rest of the wine was aged in large old barrels.
