Contini Cuvée Karmis 2023

Created to promote the historic Vernaccia di Oristano variety, a favourite of the Contini winery, over the years Karmis has become one of the firm's iconic wines. Their dynamic and modern interpretation of this variety, without added yeast, leads to this young, fresh and pleasant wine. Vernaccia is the principal grape in the blend and its vines are grown in sandy clay soils on the Sinis peninsula while the other fruit, including Vermentino grapes, are from the volcanic soils of Monte Arci. The resulting wine is a splendid example of Sardinian wines, combining marine nuances with volcanic minerality. Karmis is vinified exclusively in glazed concrete tanks. Its charming straw-yellow colour with greenish hints indicates its youth. It has fragrant aromas of white flowers, like honeysuckle, tropical fruits, such as bananas and pineapples, and the peel of citrus fruits. In the mouth, Karmis is a wonderfully fresh, smooth, balanced and flavoursome wine with a pleasant, fine and lingering body. It pairs especially well with lightly seasoned white meat and, as with many good white wines, is also ideal for accompanying aperitifs.
