Fèlsina Chianti Classico Riserva 2020

The Chianti Classico Riserva di Fèlsina (from the Etruscan "place of hospitality and refreshment") is produced with Sangiovese grapes from the single-variety vineyards of Castelnuovo Berardenga. This Sangiovese is a true homage to the winemaking tradition of Chianti Classico. One of the winery's most prized products for its extraordinary balance between body and roundness, it comes from the best vineyards in the south-eastern part of the Chianti Classico production area. Almost exclusively southwest oriented at altitudes ranging from 320 to 420 metres above sea level, the soils range from sandy-alluvial to silty, providing the best conditions for structure and verticality of the wine. Bottled since 1967, this Chianti Classico Riserva, made from single-variety Sangiovese, is the denomination’s thoroughbred, but of extraordinary value for money. The vineyard, planted in the 1970s and constantly perfected, benefits from the most modern training techniques and is harvested during the first three weeks of October to ensure the grapes are perfectly and fully ripe. Maceration takes place in stainless steel tanks until spring, when the wine is transferred to French oak barriques of second and third use and in Slavonian oak barrels of medium capacity, where it matures for 12-16 months. A beautiful ruby red colour, intense but with hints of garnet that accompany the excellent texture, this Riserva releases to the nose floral notes of viola and violet and fruity notes of blackberry and sour cherry. The texture is still mineral, with tones of undergrowth, cocoa, oregano, sweet spices. Hints that can also be perceived on the palate from the full and vertical taste, elegantly tannic and pleasantly mineral. Enveloping and satisfying, it has a beautiful bitter persistence that tells the story of the territory and entices you to keep drinking it. It pairs perfectly with substantial red meat dishes, such as stewed meat, roast meat, glazed game, meat sauces and mature cheeses.
