The Valtravieso estate is located in the heart of the Ribera del Duero, surrounded by its vineyards and lying at over 900 metres above sea level. It's the denomination's highest vineyard plantation. Here, the Atlantic climate, with its hugely contrasting day and night temperatures, a very poor stony soil, with clay on the surface and limestone bedrock, as well as strong winds, provide the main factors favouring the perfectly healthy condition of the vines, a slow ripening and, after some care and attention in the winery, the emergence of wines of great balance.
Valtravieso is a dynamic winery that also manages to combine tradition with the most advanced production processes. Its wines are mostly made from Tempranillo (or Tinta Fina), with small additions of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot which enrich their complexity. Wines which reflect the region's singularity, yet are distinguished by their own distinctive personality.
Valtravieso Reserva is one of their best wines and, with its powerful tannins having been tamed, it offers a fantastic roundness and sweetness, thanks to that combination of altitude, climate, soil and meticulous care. A wine of intense brightness and excellent depth, with some delightful fruit aromas, undergrowth notes, blackberries, chocolate and liquorice, all assaulting the nose; a blend brimming with sensuality and revealing a mineral undertone that makes its character stand out even more. Balanced and fresh, full-bodied, generous and concluding with a long finish.
