Only 5,000 bottles of the emblematic wine from Bodegas Cepa 21 reach the market. Their grapes grow slowly on a cold slope that's faces north and is exposed to the Ribera wind; the soil, sandy-clay in composition and with an abundance of pebbles, balances the equation so that the grapes attain the desired alcohol level and full maturity.
The grapes are harvested by parcel, and after being destalked and macerated at a low temperature, they ferment in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature. Finally, the wine acquires balance and complexity during its 18 months in new French oak barrels.
Malabrigo appears intense just on sight, with a very dense, deep Picota cherry colour, revealing violet glints that indicate youth. Spicy black fruit jam dominates the aromatic element, accompanied by traces of India ink, roasted notes and strong balsamic hints. On the palate it's full and enveloping, with silky tannins and restrained acidity. A very long aftertaste with smoky and peaty touches.
A modern, mature and balanced Ribera, all set to impress on any occasion.
It will continue to grow in the bottle. Decanting is recommended.
